Job Summary

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric assessment, examination, and treatment of a broad range of mental health concerns. This position provides client education, orders and reports on test results, and ensures that proper procedures are followed related to consultations.  

Representative Duties

  • Provide medical examinations, evaluations, and order testing according to best practice and standard of care
  • Provide education and prevention services to patients
  • Resolve complex and unusual issues as they present in client care, psychiatric care, and general medical situations
  • Make recommendations based on clinical examinations, evaluation, and testing results
  • Provide accurate and timely clinical records according to policies; provide clinical information to University departments and external parties when appropriate and requested
  • Provide case management and referrals to students with complex diagnoses
  • Lead or participate in committees, project teams, and/or clinical teams within the department or University
  • Provide recommendations in the development of programs, policies, and procedures; evaluate and recommend adoption of new or enhanced approaches to delivery of services
  • Participate in the development and delivery of psychiatric seminars for interns, graduate assistants, and externs
  • Participate in internal staff meetings, case consultation, and professional development
  • Maintain appropriate certification and continuing education necessary for licensure

Supervisory Responsibilities:

– Typically follows recommended course of action and procedures to resolve problems

– Uses available guidelines to make appropriate adaptations to routine situations and refers other situations to supervisor

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 13
  • Minimum – $86,300.00
  • MidPoint – $107,900.00
  • Maximum – $129,500.00
