Radiation Safety Specialist – Senior Supervisor (PSU0810)
Job Summary
The Radiation Safety Specialist evaluates, implements, and controls the University’s radioactive waste management programs and procedures to protect against radiation hazards. Recommends and develops policies for inspection standards, decontamination procedures, emergency procedures, waste handling, and disposal services. Controls staff radiation exposures, environmental releases, and surface-type contaminants. Stays abreast of all radiation protection regulations and ensures that radiation levels are in compliance with standards. May develop and direct radiation training and monitoring programs.
Representative Duties
- Coordinate and develop EHS programs for assisting faculty, staff, and students use of equipment and materials that emit ionizing radiation safely and in compliance with the requirements of the Department of Health and/or the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC)
- Act as liaison between the University and regulatory government agencies
- Ensure that appropriate records are maintained as required by applicable state and/or federal regulations
- Respond to incidents involving hazardous materials
- Plan and participate in emergency drills
- Responsible for conducting radiation emergency response training for responders, within and outside the University.
- May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Salary Structure
- Comp Grade – 13
- Minimum – $86,300.00
- MidPoint – $107,900.00
- Maximum – $129,500.00
