Director, Facilities Services – Principal Manager (PSU0949)

Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Director, Facilities Services provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for University-wide facilities services programs through the supervision of Facilities Representative Managers and Facilities Representatives; establishes and advances institutional facilities strategies, standards, policies, and operational practices that support the University's academic, research, administrative, and service missions; serves as the senior liaison between colleges, campuses, administrative units, and the Office of Physical Plant (OPP) to ensure effective planning, maintenance, renovation, capital improvement, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and stewardship of University facilities; is responsible for developing and implementing long-range facilities initiatives, fostering operational excellence, promoting consistency across units, and ensuring the effective utilization of University resources. 

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the University's Facilities Representatives and associated facilities operations
  • Develop and implement institution-wide facilities management strategies, policies, procedures, standards, and best practices
  • Establish performance expectations, service standards, and operational metrics to ensure consistent delivery of facilities services
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance customer service, operational efficiency, sustainability, and resource utilization
  • Serve as a trusted adviser to senior leadership regarding facilities planning, infrastructure needs, capital investments, and operational priorities
  • Develop short- and long-range facilities plans that support institutional growth, strategic priorities, and evolving space requirements
  • Directly supervise Facilities Service Representative Managers and Facilities Representatives; oversee workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of University policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements where applicable
  • Collaborate with OPP leaders and Facilities Representatives on facilities maintenance, renovation, construction, space management, asset management, safety, security, emergency preparedness, and sustainability initiatives
  • Ensure effective coordination between unit facilities personnel and the OPP regarding maintenance activities, capital projects, deferred maintenance, and infrastructure improvements
  • Monitor operational performance and resource allocation to ensure efficient and cost-effective facilities services
  • Promote consistency in facilities planning, project management, and operational practices across colleges, campuses, and administrative units
  • Partner with University leadership and OPP to identify, prioritize, and advance capital improvement projects; review and evaluate project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource requirements
  • Provide strategic guidance on construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects to ensure alignment with institutional goals
  • Support project planning, funding strategies, procurement activities, and stakeholder engagement throughout project lifecycles
  • Monitor project outcomes and ensure adherence to established quality, budget, and schedule expectations
  • Develop and oversee operational and programmatic budgets supporting facilities services and initiatives
  • Analyze budget forecasts, expenditures, and funding requirements; identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with applicable University policies and federal, state, and local regulations governing facilities operations, environmental health and safety, accessibility, security, and emergency management
  • Lead institutional preparedness efforts related to facilities emergency response, continuity planning, and disaster recovery
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with academic and administrative leadership, OPP, Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management, Procurement, Information Technology, Public Safety, and other University stakeholders
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among facilities personnel across the institution

Salary Structure

  • Minimum – $115,860.00
  • MidPoint – $144,804.00
  • Maximum – $173,844.00
