Job Summary

The Residential Education Specialist coordinates and supports the delivery of academic, educational, recreational, cultural, residential, social, and other cocurricular programs this position advises/counsels students and student organizations in the implementation and delivery of programs, events, activities and services

Representative Duties

  • Participate in the development, presentation, administration, planning, and evaluation of student programs and services
  • Provide personal counseling and conflict mediation to students on a 24-hour as-needed basis; provide support and guidance for students on a variety of issues including roommate conflicts, personal treats/intimidation, alcohol or drug use/abuse, sexual assault, academic adjustment, personal development and peer interactions
  • Conduct crisis intervention on matters related to threats, harassment, personal assault, sexual assault, serious personal injuries or illness, student death, fire or other safety emergency, and property damage
  • Administer the student code of conduct to include hearing judicial cases
  • Make referrals to University and community agencies as appropriate
  • Organize, develop, implement, and administer social, educational, and service-learning programs/activities
  • Plan and create student orientation fall/spring for campus population, recruiting events, and housing and or transfer programs
  • Assist in the development of unit policies
  • Recommend decisions related to various student services including housing, financial aid, health and wellness, career services, academic advising, judicial affairs, student leadership, diversity and equity, and religious services
  • Serve as the building/unit liaison to various campus and University offices
  • Provide information to students on available resources, including websites, newsletters, informational materials/brochures, annual or bi-annual reports, etc.
  • Advise various student groups as assigned

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Assigns and reviews completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards. Trains, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Anticipates potential problems, issues, and opportunities; researches and recommends solutions within defined policies. May develop creative recommendations for solving problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
Problem Solving:
– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems
– Understands benefits, limitations and impact of potential solutions
– Anticipates potential problems and recommends possible solutions within general guidelines

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 9
  • Minimum – $56,200.00
  • MidPoint – $68,800.00
  • Maximum – $81,500.00
