The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach and senior coaching staff in the administration, operation, and competitive success of an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program; contributes to all aspects of the program, including recruiting, coaching, player development, scouting, game preparation, operations, student-athlete mentoring, and program administration; promotes an environment that emphasizes competitive excellence, academic achievement, integrity, and the holistic development of student-athletes while supporting the mission and strategic goals of the University and the athletics department; serves as an ambassador for the University and athletics program through positive engagement with prospective student-athletes, alumni, donors, community members, and the media, while ensuring compliance with all applicable University, Big Ten, and NCAA rules and regulations.

• Assist the Head Coach and senior coaching staff with the daily administration and operation of an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program
• Recruit, evaluate, and retain highly qualified prospective student-athletes through talent identification, relationship development, on- and off-campus recruiting activities, official and unofficial visits, and ongoing communication with prospective student-athletes, families, coaches, and other stakeholders
• Assist prospective student-athletes throughout the recruiting process by providing guidance related to admissions, eligibility requirements, financial aid, National Letter of Intent procedures, and transition to the University
• Coach assigned position groups or functional areas by providing instruction in sport-specific skills, techniques, conditioning, and tactical execution to enhance individual and team performance
• Assist with the planning and execution of practices, competitions, training sessions, film review, and game preparation
• Gather, analyze, prepare, and present scouting reports, opponent analyses, game film, statistical data, and performance analytics to assist with strategic planning and competition
• Evaluate individual and team performance and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement
• Mentor student-athletes by promoting academic success, leadership, personal responsibility, and emotional well-being
• Assist the Head Coach in establishing and reinforcing team standards related to conduct, discipline, accountability, fair play, and ethical behavior
• Coordinate assigned operational responsibilities, which may include team travel, scheduling logistics, equipment management, inventory control, practice operations, or other administrative functions
• Assist with the procurement, inventory, maintenance, care, and storage of uniforms, equipment, and other program resources
• Assist with the planning, organization, staffing, and administration of sport camps, clinics, instructional programs, and other outreach activities that support the athletics program and University
• Compile, maintain, and analyze team and student-athlete statistics, performance records, recruiting databases, and other program information
• Supervise student managers, undergraduate assistants, graduate assistants, interns, and other assigned support personnel
• Coordinate and support community service initiatives, outreach activities, and civic engagement opportunities involving student-athletes
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, former student-athletes, donors, and supporters to enhance engagement with the program
• Assist athletics development staff with fundraising initiatives, donor cultivation, booster engagement, alumni events, and special projects that support the athletics program
• Collaborate with marketing, communications, ticket operations, event management, and external relations staff to promote the program, increase fan engagement, and support attendance initiatives
• Represent the Head Coach and the athletics program at recruiting events, alumni functions, University events, community activities, and other institutional functions as assigned
• Respond to media requests and participate in interviews, public appearances, and promotional activities as directed by the Head Coach or athletics administration
• Remain current with coaching methodologies, sports science, recruiting strategies, technology, performance analytics, and NCAA legislative updates to enhance coaching effectiveness
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of and comply with all University, Big Ten, NCAA, and applicable federal and state rules governing intercollegiate athletics
• Promptly report known or suspected violations of University, Big Ten, or NCAA rules through established compliance procedures and cooperate fully with any resulting reviews or investigations
