Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist – Senior Professional (PSU1645)
Job Summary
The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist implements and maintains University policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations; makes environmental, health, and safety recommendations regarding facility, work area, and work procedure design and development. Specialist responsibilities also include preparing, maintaining, and updating policy and procedure manuals; keeping abreast of legislation and regulation changes; and serving as contact for all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies.
Representative Duties
- Develop manuals, guidance, and training plans to educate the University community on Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program requirements
- Conduct program effectiveness and performance metric audits to identify new performance goals and training opportunities
- Develop and provide train-the-trainer and general training programs for EHS staff, safety officers, and University community
- Respond as part of an emergency team to incidents involving fire, hazardous materials, environmental and chemical spills, gas leaks, indoor air quality issues, floods, and other emergencies
- Promote advancement of the University’s safety culture; acts as EHS liaison for assigned campuses and areas
- Assist campus administration and employees plan/implement EHS policies and procedures
- Interpret federal and state regulations concerning EHS program compliance; conduct program audits; recommend changes/updates to programs and procedures, as appropriate; initiate non-compliance/other EHS-related investigations
- Review proposed legislation and regulations; recommend improvements; promote University resource and physical asset stewardship
- Generate regulatory reports, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Environmental Protection Agency notifications, and various internal requests

Salary Structure
- Comp Grade – 11
- Minimum – $68,200.00
- MidPoint – $85,200.00
- Maximum – $102,300.00
