Job Summary

The Research Computing Manager leads and oversees research computing infrastructure and services, including networking, High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, high-capacity storage, and scientific software applications necessary to support sponsored research; manages the day-to-day operations of research computing resources; supports researchers with their computational needs, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of computing environments.

Representative Duties

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of research computing infrastructure, including high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, data storage systems, and network resources
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of computing systems, including troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues
  • Manage team(s) of staff including hiring, assigning work, managing workflow and deadlines, ensuring quality of service, and creating development opportunities
  • Collaborate with research teams and leadership to understand computational needs and develop tailored solutions
  • Lead and manage research computing projects, including the deployment of new technologies and systems, upgrades, and migrations
  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within scope
  • Engage with organizations, researchers, vendors, and working groups internal and external to the University in support of strategic goals and objectives
  • Identify and evaluate grants to enhance research opportunities
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the security and compliance of research computing resources, including data protection and access controls
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologies to ensure the security and integrity of systems
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for researchers on effective use of computing resources and tools
  • Manage the budget for research computing resources, including hardware, software, and staffing
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions to optimize resource utilization and cost-effectiveness

  • Minimum – $141,700.00
  • MidPoint – $180,700.00
  • Maximum – $219,600.00
