Job Summary

The Disability Services Manager oversees a unit that provides academic adjustments for students with disabilities; develops strategies and initiatives to effectively evaluate, identify, promote, and deliver a disability support program; establishes partnerships with faculty and student focused offices to assess and implement accommodations; ensures compliance with government regulations; leads assessment and reporting activities.

Representative Duties

  • Oversee and direct a unit that provides disability services to students; ensure the delivery of responsive and effective academic services for students living with disabilities
  • Manage a team of disability services professionals; delegate and prioritize tasks; develop efficient workflows; design new initiatives to address service gaps and maintain a high standard of service; evaluate performance; provide development and training opportunities
  • In partnership with faculty and academic professionals, evaluate and approve requests for academic adjustments, accommodations, and services
  • Establish documentation standards in accordance with guidelines and regulations
  • Maintain awareness of changes to disability regulations or laws; interpret the impact on program operations and make necessary adjustments; respond to ADA inquiries and partner with central offices to develop solutions
  • Collaborate with student focused offices, departments, and academic areas to develop alternative learning resources; develop strategies to promote resources and services to students
  • Conduct needs assessments; measure and report on program effectiveness; direct quality assessment initiatives
  • Develop relationships with University partner offices including learning design, accessibility, and other disability services units; ensure alignment with University mission and standards related to student services
  • Manage the unit budget including all development, forecasting, and monitoring activities; develop financial reports; allocate resources; approve expenditures
  • Develop and implement outreach and training on accessibility, accommodations, and disability culture for faculty and staff; promote a high standard of service; advocate for the goals and mission of the unit

Base Description:
– Manages direct reports where primary duty is the management of a working unit.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates proficient ability in work design, project management, financial planning and development of goals for accomplishing unit assignments. Reviews and guides work to ensure conformity to policy and effective approaches. Evaluates employee performance and recommend development opportunities. Demonstrates ability to coach employees. Presents and communicates key university indicatives and connects it to unit contributions. Provides broad guidelines. Develops, evaluates, enhances, and/or implements quality improvement practices. Recommends innovative solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope
– Modifies, adapts, or refines guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems
Independence of Action:
– Works independently on complex or strategic assignments
– Uses existing practices and advanced working knowledge to determine appropriate work methods for the team
– Reviews completed work of others for conformity to policy, and effectiveness of approach

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 11
  • Minimum – $68,200.00
  • MidPoint – $85,200.00
  • Maximum – $102,300.00
