Job Summary

The Athletic Sports Performance Manager oversees all aspects of the Sports Science Program; implements programs geared towards sports performance techniques, strategies, and solutions to improve and support athlete performance; applies industry expertise to consult sports performance specialists, coaches and athletes on research-based practices; collaborates with staff across all areas of sports science to create a holistic framework that elevates athletic performance.

Representative Duties

  • Lead staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management
  • Serve as a key resource and leader to athletic coaches regarding annual planning strategies, the implementation of high-performance models, and the development of procedures/policies for holistic athlete development
  • Consult and advise coaches on holistic athlete development and performance solutions related to areas of Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology, and Student-Athlete Welfare and Development
  • Foster relationships with University leadership, program leaders, key stakeholders, and central offices to develop a support network for student athletes
  • Design and execute sports performance programs, initiatives, and strategies across sports; collect and analyze data to inform programming
  • Integrate and apply research in fields related to high-performance sport best practices, sport technologies, and systems-based approaches to University practices; elevate and position the University sports programs to be an athletic performance industry leader
  • Collaborate in setting long-term performance and developmental frameworks for sport and performance programs
  • Develop and grow an internship program to aid in the development of students and position them for post graduate success

Base Description:
– Manages direct reports where primary duty is the management of a working unit.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates proficient ability in work design, project management, financial planning and development of goals for accomplishing unit assignments. Reviews and guides work to ensure conformity to policy and effective approaches. Evaluates employee performance and recommend development opportunities. Demonstrates ability to coach employees. Presents and communicates key university indicatives and connects it to unit contributions. Provides broad guidelines. Develops, evaluates, enhances, and/or implements quality improvement practices. Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope
– Modifies, adapts, or refines guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems
Independence of Action:
– Works independently on complex or strategic assignments
– Uses existing practices and advanced working knowledge to determine appropriate work methods for the team
– Reviews completed work of others for conformity to policy, and effectiveness of approach

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 15
  • Minimum – $109,300.00
  • MidPoint – $136,600.00
  • Maximum – $164,000.00
