Job Summary

The International Student Support Adviser serves as a designated school official and as an Alternate Responsible Officer as authorized by the United States Department of State for University sponsored exchange visitor students and their dependents. This position advises students on a broad range of regulatory matters and maintains and updates student information in appropriate systems.

Representative Duties

  • Advise international students on Penn State policies and immigration and other regulatory issues as well as financial, social, cultural, personal, and academic issues
  • Determine eligibility of international students’ requests regarding visa status and eligibility; may review other information/requests for extension programs, F-2 dependents, curricular practical training, optional practical training, reduced course load, and other benefits of immigration status
  • Analyze and resolve complex immigration issues to support students' statuses while studying in the United States
  • Interact with agencies including the Social Security Administration, Department of Motor Vehicles, etc., to support students seeking visa-related benefits
  • Maintain and update student information in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and other complex database systems in order to meet SEVIS compliance
  • Advise other departmental staff, faculty, and administrators regarding maintaining compliance in relation to international student issues
  • Conduct immigration related workshops for faculty, staff, and students on various topics
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 6
  • Minimum – $42,100.00
  • MidPoint – $51,600.00
  • Maximum – $61,000.00
