Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Student Athlete Advising Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of Student Athlete Advisers who provide academic support, advising, and eligibility tracking for student-athletes; ensures the successful implementation of academic support strategies that promote student-athlete development, retention, and graduation, while maintaining compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations; serves as a liaison to Athletics, Faculty, Compliance, and campus partners; oversees program assessment, staff development, and service delivery.

  • Provide leadership and support to Student Athlete Advisers, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and ongoing professional development
  • Establish clear expectations and goals aligned with departmental and institutional priorities
  • Oversee staff workload, training, team assignments, and coverage for assigned sports
  • Coordinate and communicate with student athlete development and enrichment team, ICA administration, coaches, prospective students on new student
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered advising culture
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality academic advising, academic progress monitoring, and eligibility services for student-athletes
  • Oversee the implementation of individualized academic support plans in collaboration with tutorial and learning services staff
  • Coordinate efforts to support student-athletes facing academic or personal challenges, including crisis management and referrals
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic support and enrichment programs, including study halls, life skills workshops, orientations, and bridge programs
  • Assist with the Nittany Lion Degree Completion Program in coordination with Intercollegiate Athletics administration, the Morgan Academic Center Director, and sport administrators
  • Guide the development and assessment of student success outcomes, including metrics that may be leading indicators of student retention and persistence
  • Oversee systems for tracking NCAA academic metrics, including graduation success rate and academic progress rate
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of academic progress, eligibility status, and degree audits in collaboration with the Athletics Compliance Office and the Registrar
  • Interpret and enforce NCAA, Big Ten, and institutional academic policies and procedures
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on academic performance, retention, graduation rates, and program outcomes to inform strategic improvements
  • Contribute to the development of departmental goals, policies, and procedures
  • Identify and address systemic barriers to student-athlete academic success
  • Serve as a key liaison to coaches, faculty, college academic advisers, and other campus stakeholders
  • Promote cross-departmental collaboration to support the holistic development of student-athletes
  • Represent the department in meetings, committees, and recruiting events
  • Provide oversight and support for the delivery of first-year seminars or academic courses taught by staff; assist with curriculum development and instructional planning

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 12
  • Minimum – $76,700.00
  • MidPoint – $95,900.00
  • Maximum – $115,100.00
