Job Summary

The Forestry Specialist is responsible for the sustainable management of several thousand acres of diverse University forestland, its natural resources, and the associated infrastructure. This position serves in an academic capacity in support of the department of ecosystem science and management’s undergraduate instructional program.

Representative Duties

  • Manage University dirt gravel and low volume forest roads; identify deficiencies and lobby for financially supported repairs
  • Oversee the Forestland Management Office’s chemical herbicide application program; research, purchase, and apply herbicide mixtures in compliance with appropriate regulations
  • Manage and oversee the general activities on the University’s forestland
  • Organize ecological habitat restoration projects on forestlands by developing new and nurturing existing professional partnerships with government and non-government organizations
  • Responsible for conserving applicable ecosystems through execution of management plan
  • Organize and edit spatial data
  • Monitor market demand, track forest health, and access available labor to direct silvicultural treatments
  • Protect the forestland’s real estate boundary by physically marking and posting the established parameters
  • Create, develop, update, and instruct a for credit, undergraduate, ecosystems management course
  • Develop, update, and instruct on content for labs
  • Serve as a liaison to necessary law enforcement agencies

  • Comp Grade – 8
  • Minimum – $51,000.00
  • MidPoint – $62,500.00
  • Maximum – $74,000.00
