Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Nuclear Research Technologist acts as the lead role in matters related to the reactor control and safety system, instrumentation, and the physical security at the nuclear reactor sites. This position is responsible for engineering design, procurement, assembly, calibration, troubleshooting, testing and repair of electronics, computer and select mechanical systems used to measure, monitor, or perform desired functions to support reactor operations, research and physical security at the radiation science and engineering center.

  • Serve as the system expert at a nuclear reactor site to ensure the operability of the reactor safety and control system and instrumentations
  • Train reactor operators on the reactor safety and control systems and instrumentations
  • Serve as a senior reactor operator to ensure safe and secured reactor operations
  • Provide reactor operation support, outside research and testing support, and teaching support for the Department of Nuclear Engineering
  • Assist in the teaching of relevant courses and ensure the operability of all test equipment in the nuclear security laboratory
  • Manage all physical security systems and oversee the electronic access control for University radiation center
  • Review and revise procedures used at the facility
