University Press Manager – Senior Manager (PSU0791)
Job Summary
The University Press Manager plans and directs various aspects of the acquisition, production, publication, and promotion of a wide range of scholarly and general interest books and journals; plays a key role in manuscript selection decisions, oversees a publishing function, and/or oversees the production and manufacturing of new journals, hardback, paperback, and ebook publications and reprints; oversees activities of editors responsible for author contact and manuscript/article solicitation; develops long-range plans and goals for press publications including sales and marketing activities; manages staff, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance, and determines staffing needs.
Representative Duties
- Serve as the manager over a department of the University Press, such as publishing, journals, acquisitions, etc.
- Plan and direct the publication and promotion of a wide range of scholarly and general interest books
- Develop and build relationships for publishing partnerships
- Evaluate new publications for acquisition; work closely with external editors to ensure quality on-time publications
- Plan, organize, direct, and oversee the overall process by which a manuscript is converted into a book/eBook
- Schedule and oversee the creative efforts including copyediting, design, proofreading, and manufacturing
- Identify manufacturers that meet high quality standards, schedules, and budget
- Manage the manufacture of each book including the selection of vendor, paper, binding materials, and handling of illustrations
- Ensure quality standards are met related to brand management
- Aid in the consultation with authors, editors, and editorial assistants on the quality and submission of art, figures, charts, and graphs
- Receive and review author requests for permission to reuse published material in other sources
- Assist in the development of industry policies and standards to advance the mission of the University Press
- Oversee staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Salary Structure
- Comp Grade – 12
- Minimum – $76,700.00
- MidPoint – $95,900.00
- Maximum – $115,100.00
