Job Summary

IT Project Managers direct the technical project management function; lead project efforts based on industry best practices; work as the single point of contact for facilitation and communication of project goals, deliverables and schedules and must be an excellent communicator; various levels of documentation will be produced at each stage of the project and the project manager is often the person who creates these with input from others.

Representative Duties

  • Interact regularly with project sponsors and stakeholders; use appropriate project management strategies for implementing requirements across a broad range of programs and initiatives
  • Conduct project management activities such as communicating with resource managers, team leads, etc. in order to track project milestones and keep the focus on delivering project commitments
  • Facilitate and lead the creation of project definitions, budgets, work breakdowns, rough order estimates, project plans, communication plans and project schedules to determine scope of work for assigned projects
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle
  • Interact regularly with project teams for enterprise wide, multi-year projects
  • Research and recommend project management policies, principles, and practices
  • Incorporate quality measures and standards to project deliverables
  • Coordinate, resolve, or assist in resolution of conflicts and other issues within and between project teams and recommend/provide solutions
  • Facilitate and/or conduct feasibility studies for projects and requests for proposals, and make recommendations on selections
  • Prepare reports and other associated project or program documentation
  • Provide technical guidance to other staff or users, especially as it pertains to the use of tools for effective project management
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates appropriate knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. Demonstrates baseline planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Reviews completed work of others to verify accuracy and quality. Follows recommended approaches to assigned work. Supervises assigned staff and coordinates routine work activities. Monitors employee interactions and facilitates a productive working environment. Communicates instructions and policies in a consistent, effective and timely manner. Identifies and addresses concerns appropriately. Makes recommendations for possible solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Support track, performs work at Senior Support level or higher; for Professional track, performs work at the Advanced Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– May monitor/track budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
Problem Solving:
– Encounters generally routine problems with progressively more complex and/or varied problems
– Typically follows standard operating procedures to resolve problems
– May apply specialized knowledge and skills to resolve complex and/or varied problems
– Applies proven and tries new approaches when solving problems
Independence of Action:
– Works with minimal supervision on difficult work assignments, conferring with manager on unusual matters

  • Comp Grade – 12
  • Minimum – $76,700.00
  • MidPoint – $95,900.00
  • Maximum – $115,100.00
