Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Education Abroad Advising Manager oversees the full lifecycle of education abroad advising for outgoing and incoming students; manages a team of Education Abroad Advisers; directs training and professional development; ensures consistent, high-quality advising practices; collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance student experiences abroad; plays a key role in shaping strategic initiatives around student access, success, health and safety, and global engagement; serves as a critical liaison between advisers, academic departments, administrative offices, and global partners.

  • Oversee education abroad advising across all program types, including faculty-led, exchange, direct enrollment, and internship/research abroad programs
  • Ensure students are equipped to make well-informed decisions about programs, academic fit, cost, scholarships, and health and safety
  • Manage a personal advising portfolio (if needed) and oversee the development and implementation of assessment plans for advising effectiveness
  • Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate a team(s); lead onboarding and ongoing training, ensuring consistent and current advising practices align with best practices in the field; provide mentorship and foster a collaborative team environment
  • Assist with strategic planning related to access, student success, global engagement, and operational effectiveness
  • Analyze advising and program data to identify trends, assess impact, and recommend improvements in policy, process, and technology
  • Partner with the Director to forecast staffing, training, and resource needs based on enrollment trends and institutional priorities
  • Oversee content development and accuracy of all advising-related materials, including print, web, and digital resources
  • Ensure that outreach and communication efforts meet university brand and accessibility standards
  • Collaborate with the outreach and marketing team to plan recruitment initiatives and information sessions
  • Develop and maintain communication resources for parents and families
  • Serve as a key liaison to academic departments, administrative units (e.g., Financial Aid, Registrar), and Penn State Global teams
  • Maintain ongoing communication with international partner institutions regarding student applications, academic calendars, immigration, and welfare
  • Troubleshoot issues and resolve concerns with students, faculty, and international partners as needed
  • In coordination with senior staff and university risk management, respond to student emergencies and critical incidents abroad
  • Oversee pre-departure preparation and training, including safety protocols, insurance coverage, and cross-cultural resources
  • Provide input on program budgets, student costs, and fee structures
  • Assist in developing financial planning tools and manage operational expenditures within assigned authority
  • Represent Penn State Global in campus-wide committees and initiatives
  • May represent the University to global partners, international consortia, and professional organizations

  • Comp Grade – 10
  • Minimum – $61,800.00
  • MidPoint – $75,700.00
  • Maximum – $89,600.00
