Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Student Athlete Learning Specialist develops and implements individualized leaning plans for a caseload of student athletes; provides academic support, tools, resources, and learning strategies to enhance academic success; monitors student growth and identifies the need for intervention; interacts with students and parents to address academic, educational or personal needs; contributes to the delivery of effective and responsive services within a student athlete learning center.

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and deliver academic support and interventions to a caseload of student athletes; develop individualized learning plans

  • Provide instruction and support in specific academic success skill areas including time management, critical thinking, note taking, and study strategies

  • Facilitate and conduct screening, assessment, and diagnostic testing of student athletes; identify at risk student athletes; determine the level and type of learning support needed; refer for additional testing outside of the unit as necessary

  • Facilitate and lead tutor programs; select and train tutors; coordinate tutor schedules; assess, monitor, and report on program outcomes 

  • Coordinate and deliver summer bridge and academic enrichment programs

  • Develop and implement training initiatives or programs for academic support staff to ensure that staff are equipped with skills needed to serve at-risk student athletes

  • Collaborate with disability offices, coaches, and academic counselors to provide recommendations based on the individual learning plan and needs of each athlete; advocate for student-athletes with University student support offices

  • Maintain student records and files in accordance with privacy and compliance policies; prepare reports for academic support teams related to learning outcomes and intervention success data

  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

  • MidPoint – $51,600.00
