Job Summary

The Major Gift Manager oversee the team that manages the fundraising efforts for donors and prospects in their assigned college or unit, including annual receipt and commitment goals; provides professional guidance and leadership in identifying and executing strategies that are most likely to be achieved through private philanthropy; lead the development of annual goal setting and fundraising plans and direct related activities in support of these goals and objectives; oversee a portfolio of major gift prospects and lead the staff to identify, cultivate and solicit donors and prospects in support of the College or Unit fundraising goals; works collaboratively with the head of the academic unit, development, trained committee volunteers and central University Development staff to maximize fundraising success for the University; works to engage department heads, faculty, and staff in the fundraising enterprise.

Representative Duties

  • Develop, execute, and evaluate strategies and programs to identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit donor prospects for assigned area of responsibility
  • Advise leadership donors on complex gift arrangements benefiting the unit
  • Develop short- and long-term fundraising goals, plans and objectives, as well as solicitation proposals to meet the unit’s philanthropic needs
  • Work closely with the unit’s academic leadership and collaboratively across University Development to meet the unit’s and University fundraising objectives
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts with multiple units in contact with University Development to execute effective solicitation strategies
  • Lead presentations to University, business, social and civic groups
  • Supervise assigned staff and supervise either an alumni relations director or communications function
  • Sustain a higher level of prospects, solicitations and personal commitments than a lower level Major Gift Officer

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope
– Modifies, adapts, or refines guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems

– Works independently on complex or strategic assignments
– Uses existing practices and advanced working knowledge to determine appropriate work methods for the team

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 15
  • Minimum – $109,300.00
  • MidPoint – $136,600.00
  • Maximum – $164,000.00
