Job Summary

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Specialist (EEO) establishes and implements diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals and initiatives for a unit; identifies training needs; applies subject-matter expertise to provide consultation and education in areas related to diversity; and develops strategies to engage the University community with inclusion efforts.

Representative Duties

  • Coordinate, implement, and lead programs and initiatives promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to communities the University serves
  • Establish diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals; conduct needs assessments to measure and identify opportunities to promote cultural understanding and a climate of inclusion across the organization; administer assessments to measure program success
  • Ensure initiatives align with the strategic goals for the unit or campus, and are in line with overall University strategic goals
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging training offerings; develop training resources; apply best practices and emerging research related to training strategies; identify gaps and opportunities to extend training offerings throughout the organization
  • Participate in and lead diversity related committees; build relationships with internal and external partners including faculty, staff, and senior leadership; develop strategies for community and stakeholder engagement
  • Provide consultation to leadership on policy or legislative changes related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts; provide guidance on the impact and appropriate response to these changes
  • Examine issues affecting employees; support and enhance efforts to recruit and retain diverse employees; design strategies to foster a workplace culture of openness and inclusion
  • Manage projects including deliverables, timelines, outcomes, and budgets; collaborate with central units to enhance the sustainability and compliance of initiatives; analyze and report on project outcomes

– Demonstrates proficient and comprehensive knowledge of defined skill areas/applications. Applies knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a particular field to decision-making and problem–solving. Works under minimum supervision on varied and sometimes difficult work assignments, conferring with supervisor or subject matter experts on unusual matters. May lead others or a team in completion of complex assignments. Interprets and communicates information clearly, accurately, and persuasively. Researches and tries new approaches when solving difficult or novel problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Indirect supervisor or mentor for other full–time employees
– May serve as direct supervisor for part–time, student, and/or temporary workers, volunteers, or a full–time employee
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– May monitor/track budgets and funding
Problem Solving:
– Encounters generally routine problems with progressively more complex and/or varied problems
– Typically follows recommended course of action and procedures to resolve problems
– May apply specialized knowledge and skills to resolve complex and/or varied problems, with supervisor oversight
– Researches and tries new approaches when solving problems
Independence of Action:
– Works with minimal supervision on more difficult work assignments, conferring with supervisor on unusual matters

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 10
  • Minimum – $61,800.00
  • MidPoint – $75,700.00
  • Maximum – $89,600.00
