Job Summary

The Landscape Operations Manager plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees, through supervisory personnel, all landscaping and groundskeeping activities including horticulture programs and landscape construction projects, snow removal and composting operations, and equipment repair, maintenance, and control. Manager responsibilities include labor requirement determinations and adjustments; quality control and customer service; inventory management; budget development; technical consultation; contract negotiations; regulatory and bargaining agreement compliance.

Representative Duties

  • Oversee, direct, and manage, through supervisory personnel, landscape and groundskeeping activities including hardscape and softscape, landscape construction projects, composting, snow removal, and service garage operations
  • Forecast, develop, and administer operating budgets; ensure fiscal responsibility; identify and implement cost containment measures; develop new and maximize existing revenue sources; monitor efficiency and productivity; research and requisition equipment and supplies
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate quality control and environmental protection programs
  • Advise senior management on matters related to areas of operation
  • Provide technical consultation; consult and collaborate with engineers, designers, architects, contractors, vendors, and suppliers, etc.
  • Negotiate internal service contracts; ensure quality customer service; resolve or refer issues
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory requirements; develop operational changes, policies, and procedures; establish and communicate standards; manage compliance including licensing, certifications, and training; adapt organizational structure as needed
  • Hire, train, coach, supervise, schedule, and evaluate employees; plan and coordinate professional development opportunities; adhere to Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions; participate in grievance/arbitration proceedings

Presents and communicates key university indicatives and connects it to unit contributions. Provides broad guidelines. Develops, evaluates, enhances, and/or implements quality improvement practices. Recommends innovative solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope
– Modifies, adapts, or refines guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems
Independence of Action:
– Works independently on complex or strategic assignments
– Uses existing practices and advanced working knowledge to determine appropriate work methods for the team

  • Comp Grade – 11
  • Minimum – $68,200.00
  • MidPoint – $85,200.00
  • Maximum – $102,300.00

8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience
