Job Summary

The Engineering Project Management role leverages project management practices to lead projects, initiatives, and work units; manages project teams including all supervisory, development, and performance evaluation responsibilities; interacts with project stakeholders including funding sponsors, project engineers, and technical tradesmen; develops and implements project plans related to budget, resource allocation, reporting, compliance, and operational processes; identifies and implements operational changes to accomplish the project goals and objectives.

Representative Duties

  • Collaborate with investigators to develop, execute, and update the project plan; establish, implement, and assess project management strategies; design project infrastructure to promote efficient workflows and high-quality, innovative deliverables; maintain quality assurance processes and ensure a focus on delivering project commitments
  • Lead strategic planning efforts including implementing, assessing, and revising processes and procedures; recommend changes that impact project direction; oversee data reporting and analysis efforts
  • Provide leadership and direction for a project team; responsible for all management activities including hiring, supervision, training and professional development, and performance evaluation
  • Facilitate communication between sponsors, investigators, resource managers, project engineers, and technical tradesmen; manage and track project schedule, resources, deliverables, and milestones
  • Manage stakeholder project and product needs; coordinate with investigators to manage and adhere to sponsor requirements
  • Facilitate, review, and approve task/project budgets, work breakdowns, rough order estimates, task prioritization, and integration plans with investigators and program managers; coordinate with investigators and financial teams to create project budget baseline; establish and update the project budget
  • Provide relevant project data including cost and hours input to financial teams to create estimates; review project costs on a regular basis to ensure accuracy in preparation for project close out
  • Collaborate with financial and property inventory teams to review fabrication costs; ensure correct classification, work breakdowns, and coding in preparation for project close out
  • Manage all status collection, reporting, and schedule management activities; prepare reports and other associated project documentation
  • Manage project resources; oversee subcontracts including identifying and qualifying subcontractors, risk management, and reviewing agreements
  • Coordinate with project investigators to ensure adherence to regulatory and sponsor requirements; oversee compliance and security needs of the project, coordinate with the PI to manage regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate and resolve conflicts within and between project and program teams; recommend and implement solutions
  • Serve as liaison with other work units, programs, and various other organizations/groups to disseminate information and promote research activities

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area

– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope

  • Comp Grade – 16
  • Minimum – $123,200.00
  • MidPoint – $157,100.00
  • Maximum – $191,000.00
