Job Summary

The Strength Training Manager oversees staff and teams tasked with planning, evaluating, and implementing strength training and conditioning programs for intercollegiate athletics, team and club sports, and the University community; develops and enforces safety policies for training environments; ensures NCAA and conference policies are being strictly adhered to.

Representative Duties

  • Design, implement, lead, and evaluate a vigorous and innovative sports performance enhancement program; manage all administrative, personnel, programmatic, operational, and strategic aspects of the program
  • Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive strength and conditioning programs focused on movement quality, power, speed, agility, flexibility, injury prevention, strength and fitness evaluation, performance enhancement, and recreation
  • Customize programs based on specific sport or athlete needs to improve and enhance performance; ensure a training environment for student-athletes that is healthy, safe, equitable, and inclusive
  • Develop and deliver education to trainers; apply research in fields related to performance enhancement; integrate innovative training practices, techniques, and philosophies in order to elevate athletic training practices; position the University strength training program to be an industry leader
  • Collaborate with various groups including sports medicine, coaches, athletic academic support, compliance, and administrative units in order to deliver effective and holistic programming; establish and align training program goals with broader athlete and performance enhancement goals; establish player assessment and development practices and procedures
  • Develop and administer the sports performance enhancement budget
  • Oversee strength training facilities including security, safety, compliance and daily operation
  • Ensure program compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations
  • Manage a team of athletic trainers; responsible for all hiring, supervision, development, and evaluation activities; assign duties and priorities between employees; ensure efficient workflows

– Demonstrates proficient ability in work design, project management, financial planning and development of goals for accomplishing unit assignments. Reviews and guides work to ensure conformity to policy and effective approaches. Evaluates employee performance and recommend development opportunities. Demonstrates ability to coach employees. Presents and communicates key university indicatives and connects it to unit contributions. Provides broad guidelines. Develops, evaluates, enhances, and/or implements quality improvement practices. Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope
– Modifies, adapts, or refines guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems

  • Minimum – $109,300.00
  • MidPoint – $136,600.00
  • Maximum – $164,000.00
