Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Case Manager- Advocacy and Care provides comprehensive student support through non-clinical case management, crisis response, advocacy, and resource coordination; develops individualized care plans; facilitates access to campus and community resources; maintains case documentation; provides outreach and consultation; collaborates with multidisciplinary partners to support student well-being, safety, retention, and success.

  • Deliver assistance, advocacy, support, and consultation to students experiencing a broad range of complex behavioral, psychological, social, academic, financial, housing, and personal challenges
  • Provide comprehensive, non-clinical case management for students experiencing distress, crisis, or significant barriers to success by conducting needs assessments, developing holistic care plans, and referring and coordinating services to ensure successful access to care
  • Serve as a central point of coordination by assisting students in navigating University policies, procedures, offices, and systems; reduce barriers to access; advocate on behalf of students when appropriate; promote informed decision-making and self-advocacy
  • Provide ongoing coordination and follow-up during and after a student crisis or significant student concern; ensure continuity of care and successful connection to resources; monitor student progress toward established care goals; evaluate the effectiveness of interventions; encourage engagement with recommended treatment and support services; modify care plans as student needs evolve
  • Develop, evaluate, facilitate, and implement initiatives, events, programs, and services that promote student wellness and address student care needs; coordinate specialized student support initiatives, including respondent support services, emergency funding assistance, basic needs programs, and other targeted intervention efforts
  • Conduct initial assessments of students in person, by phone, electronically, or through referrals to determine immediate needs, level of risk, and appropriate interventions; implement safety planning and coordinate emergency response when warranted
  • Respond to students experiencing crisis or elevated levels of concern by providing consultation, intervention, de-escalation, and coordinated response in collaboration with campus and community partners; serve as an on-call first responder to crisis or emergency incidents
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary responses by collaborating with Counseling Services, Student Conduct, Title IX, Disability Services, Academic Affairs, Housing and Residence Life, Campus Safety, Health Services, Financial Aid, faculty, staff, and community providers to promote student well-being and success
  • Support the Office of Student Conduct with student and student organization case management, including academic integrity and Title IX referrals; use documentation to support formal investigation processes; communicate with parents/guardians, families, or designated emergency contacts, as appropriate
  • Complete documentation and maintain records of student cases in a case management application; ensure compliance with applicable privacy regulations, institutional policies, and professional standards for recordkeeping
  • Maintain current knowledge of campus resources, community services, behavioral intervention practices, crisis response protocols, higher education trends, investigation processes, and applicable federal, state, and institutional policies to provide informed guidance and referrals
  • Provide post-hospitalization support by developing return-to-campus plans; facilitate academic advocacy; coordinate ongoing support to promote successful transition and student retention
  • Provide consultation and outreach to faculty, staff, students, and campus partners; educate the campus community on recognizing signs of distress, referral pathways, crisis response procedures, and available support resources
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret case management data, utilization trends, student outcomes, and performance metrics to assess program effectiveness; identify emerging student needs and systemic barriers; inform strategic planning; recommend continuous process and service improvements that enhance equity, accessibility, and student success
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Support track, performs work at Senior Support level or higher; for Professional track, performs work at the Advanced Professional level or higher)
