Job Summary

The Pharmacist provides professional pharmacy services including counseling and education to students, staff, faculty and retirees of the University following the governing board laws and regulations and University rules and guidance. This position supports clinical services at the student health center, student health/wellness centers, other departments and outreach units across the University’s commonwealth campuses. 

Representative Duties

  • Carefully review and fill all prescription orders for patients and customers
  • Advise patient of Drug Utilization Review (DUR), which includes appropriate dosing, duration of use. drug interactions, allergy warnings and drug compatibility
  • Engage in quality assurance activities, reviewing orders for accuracy of input as well as the physical filling of all prescriptions
  • Evaluate daily business; consider staffing levels and other factors to maintain efficient operations
  • Direct workflow; assign tasks for technical staff and customer service representatives
  • Communicate in an effective and professional manner with co-workers, chief pharmacist, prescribers, nurses, other healthcare professionals and entities
  • Actively plan, participate, and contribute professional insight in weekly staff meetings
  • Ensure compliance obligations are met in all aspects of business
  • Maintain required professional licensure with PA State Board of Pharmacy, including the completion of continuing education hours and trainings
  • Participate in all pharmacy inventory preparation and execution; help to prepare the pharmacy for accreditation survey
  • Maintain accurate records of controlled substance and narcotic inventory and appropriately return expired or unsalable controlled substances to Inmar for credit and proper destruction
  • Coordinate the closing process and ensure all work is completed at end of day; prepare the pharmacy for the following days' business and verify the physical security of the pharmacy at closing
  • Participate in discussions, planning and execution of pharmacy marketing
  • Represent the Pharmacy and department and attend community outreach events
