Security Supervisor – Senior Supervisor (PSU2043)

Job Summary

The Security Supervisor coordinates day-to-day operations for a team of Public Safety Specialists; coordinates shift scheduling and administration; reviews and advises on revisions to policies; stays current on federal/state laws and University policies and procedures; provides effective leadership, counseling, and direction to assigned staff; provides safety and security training for various safety and security systems and processes; manages records in compliance with Act 235.

Representative Duties

  • Manage and coordinate assigned staff, including scheduling, delegating duties and responsibilities, training, employee relations, performance evaluations, and overall adherence to collective bargaining agreements
  • Oversee the enforcement of University security policies, rules and regulations
  • Ensure visibility in the community is maintained to prevent illegal or unsafe acts and to protect property
  • Conduct periodic searches of facilities to ensure security measures are intact
  • Review security incidents that have been reported by Public Safety Specialists; recommend whether further investigation is warranted
  • May conduct detailed investigations of an incident, which includes reviewing access control systems, surveillance footage, and interviewing involved parties; make assessments and recommendations
  • Ensure weapons and range qualifications, Act 235 certification and recertifications, annual certification requirements, and required trainings are being properly maintained
  • Ensure video surveillance systems, alarms, and access controls are functioning properly
  • Identify security issues, gather information, and recommend appropriate action and resolution

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Assigns and reviews completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards. Trains, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Anticipates potential problems, issues, and opportunities; researches and recommends solutions within defined policies. May develop creative recommendations for solving problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
Problem Solving:
– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems
– Understands benefits, limitations and impact of potential solutions
– Anticipates potential problems and recommends possible solutions within general guidelines

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 8
  • Minimum – $51,000.00
  • MidPoint – $62,500.00
  • Maximum – $74,000.00
