Job Summary

The Architectural Engineer contributes to and collaborates on the development and execution of experimental research projects and initiatives throughout the department of architectural engineering.  Working alongside faculty, staff, and students, the position provides expertise by contributing to the application of established engineering and scientific theories, experimental techniques, research practices and technologies, and data and results analyses to research problems and broader coordination of related laboratory facilities and resources across departmental researchers.

Representative Duties

  • Contribute to the evaluation of existing scientific literature; assesses applicability of standards, theories, and experimental and scientific techniques, technologies, and engineering principles
  • Collaborate with departmental constituents through the life cycle of a research program, beginning at the project development and conception phases, through proposal development, to execution, and the dissemination of results,
  • Collaborate on and serve as key contributor to the development of experimental approaches and the design of related experiments and analyses
  • Coordinate departmental safety programs to support staff, students, and other stakeholders in the areas of safety and departmental operations
  • Participate in and advises on the evaluation and analysis of experimental data and the reporting of interim and final results
  • Take part in the evaluation of the suitability of measurement techniques, equipment, sensor types, and implementation
  • Work with faculty and students to devise methodologies to test devices or principle of interest
  • Contribute to experimental educational projects across the curriculum
  • Maintain a working knowledge of shared campus laboratories and other available resources and equipment to enable the completion of experimental research projects
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and execute teaching experiments and other academic research and demonstration activities across the Architectural Engineering instructional curriculum
  • Provide consultation to faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students, as necessary, to enable progress on their research and experimental challenges
  • Coordinate sales, demonstration, site visits, and quotation interactions with equipment manufacturers to support the specification and evaluation of research capital equipment for inclusion in proposals
  • Enable administrative and coordination activities, such as laboratory configuration, coordination, and upgrades, safety administration, efficient deployment of departmental resources, and organizational program development
  • Assist in the faculty recruitment/interview process, when requested, working with faculty to develop startup proposals and consider existing resources
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance, organization, and functionality of laboratories
  • Contribute to the development of new research projects, departmental initiatives, and grant proposals, as requested
