Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Architectural Engineer provides engineering expertise to support multidisciplinary research, instruction, and laboratory operations; collaborates with faculty, researchers, staff, and students to develop and execute experimental research, design and implement specialized engineering systems and laboratory technologies, and provide technical leadership throughout the research lifecycle; manages shared laboratory facilities, research infrastructure, equipment, and safety programs while supporting sponsored research, instructional activities, and initiatives that advance the teaching, research, and service mission.

  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate experimental systems, research hardware, instrumentation, structural testing platforms, additive manufacturing technologies, and related engineering solutions that support research and instructional activities
  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students throughout the research lifecycle by supporting project development, proposal preparation, experimental design, testing, data analysis, and dissemination of research results
  • Develop and execute engineering test plans, experimental procedures, and validation activities; analyze results; troubleshoot technical issues; recommend design improvements based on research finding
  • Provide technical consultation on engineering methods, instrumentation, measurement techniques, laboratory technologies, and emerging research practices to faculty, researchers, and students
  • Manage shared laboratory operations, including facility utilization, equipment maintenance and calibration, laboratory organization, infrastructure improvements, and efficient deployment of resources
  • Coordinate laboratory safety programs by developing procedures, conducting hazard assessments, maintaining regulatory compliance, and promoting safe laboratory operations
  • Support sponsored research by assisting with technical planning, equipment specifications, laboratory capabilities, budgets, capital equipment acquisition, and coordination with vendors and external partners
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, laboratory procedures, technical reports, and operating protocols to support research, and instructional activities
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop instructional laboratories, demonstrations, and experiential learning activities that enhance the curriculum
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to research staff and student researchers while maintaining expertise in emerging engineering technologies, standards, and best practices
  • Contribute to planning and continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing laboratory capabilities, research infrastructure, and interdisciplinary collaboration
