Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Fraternity and Sorority Life Specialist guides and supports the cocurricular experience of fraternity and sorority students and organizations; develops and delivers programs, events, tools, and resources that promote student learning around leadership, health and safety, civic engagement, and inclusion and belonging; works with internal and external stakeholders to enhance fraternity and sorority student and organization development.

  • Lead and implement a comprehensive cocurricular experience for fraternity and sorority students and organizations

  • Advise fraternity and sorority governing council operations, chapter activities, and community development programs and initiatives

  • Support and guide fraternity and sorority students in their personal development, accountability, and peer interactions

  • Advocate for the success and progress of assigned chapters; shepherd the evaluation and award process

  • Develop and implement programs, events, tools, and resources addressing leadership, health and safety, civic engagement, and inclusion and belonging

  • Oversee peer education programs addressing alcohol and substance use and sexual violence prevention in fraternities and sororities

  • Assess educational programs to evaluate student learning, behavior change, and ongoing needs; develop and administer membership experience surveys

  • Assist in the creation and enforcement of unit policies regarding fraternity and sorority activities and events

  • Monitor chapter activities to ensure adherence to University policies and procedures; identify, document, and refer student conduct issues; conduct investigations, provide guidance on compliance issues, and assist with facilitating conduct sanctions when appropriate

  • Respond to issues or concerns within the fraternity and sorority community and make referrals to university and community resources when appropriate

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including university departments, advisors, alumni, house corporations, headquarters, national governing councils, and community agencies and organizations, to enhance the fraternity and sorority community

  • Market and promote fraternity and sorority programs, events, initiatives, and experiences

  • May supervise professional and/or student staff, including hiring, development, and evaluation

Level Summary:

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Support track, performs work at Senior Support level or higher; for Professional track, performs work at the Advanced Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– May monitor/track budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
