Design and Construction Project Manager – Senior Supervisor (PSU1729)

Job Summary

The Design and Construction Project Manager provides coordination and management services on a variety of major and minor construction and renovation projects through the entire life cycle of a project, from conceptual development through design, construction, and closeout; reports and makes presentations for stakeholders and leadership.

Representative Duties

  • Direct the portfolio of assigned projects regarding scope of work, budget, and timeline
  • Manage the selection of design teams, construction contractors, and related consultants and suppliers
  • Oversee the progression of project teams and project status; report to stakeholders and leadership
  • Set program criteria for projects; establish standards, policies, and procedures
  • Manage project budgets including estimate development, value engineering efforts, cost tracking, and review and analysis of change orders
  • Mitigate risks associated with design, construction, and schedule delays; develop contingency plans
  • Review and maintain safety risk assessment, environmental health and infection control policies (HMC); ensure policies are adhered to by design professionals and construction contractors
  • Ensure code compliance and regulations are followed by assigned projects and associate teams
  • Oversee and ensure appropriate implementation, operation, evaluation, and adjustment to processes within the organization to ensure that quality standards are achieved
  • Champion continuous quality improvement initiatives utilizing appropriate philosophies and theories to solve problems and improve processes
  • Monitor market and industry trends to ensure new methods of executing work are investigated and implemented
  • Direct work of professional consultants and contractors
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Assigns and reviews completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards. Trains, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Anticipates potential problems, issues, and opportunities; researches and recommends solutions within defined policies. May develop creative recommendations for solving problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
Problem Solving:
– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems
– Understands benefits, limitations and impact of potential solutions
– Anticipates potential problems and recommends possible solutions within general guidelines
Independence of Action:
– Works independently on moderately complex work assignments, reviews progress, and evaluates results
– Organizes work of direct reports and sets team priorities

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 12
  • Minimum – $76,700.00
  • MidPoint – $95,900.00
  • Maximum – $115,100.00
