Job Summary

Compliance Specialists ensure University community members are knowledgeable of statutory, regulatory, and University-established ethics, culture, value, and standards of conduct requirements/expectations; support the creation and implementation of University compliance policies and procedures; keep abreast of regulatory requirements; conduct compliance audits and investigations; provide non-compliant remediation and monitoring, and conduct compliance education and training.

Representative Duties

  • Ensure University community members including trustees, leadership, administrators, faculty, staff, and students are aware of statutory, regulatory, and University-established ethics, culture, values, and standards of conduct requirements and expectations
  • Collaborate with internal partners to create, update, develop, and implement compliance policies, procedures, protocols, etc.
  • Conduct annual, periodic, topical, and area-specific internal compliance audits; respond to non-compliant notifications and findings
  • Collect, organize, and review compliance requirement documentation; conduct investigations; report findings to appropriate management, compliance committees, administration, federal agencies, etc.; remediate issues and monitor compliance
  • Effectively communicate as a subject-matter expert regarding compliance requirements and issues of concern
  • Prepare University personnel for external compliance audits and inspections; conduct pre-audit reviews; identify areas of concern; provide corrective action instruction and guidance
  • Maintain compliance activity documentation including non-compliant reports and investigation outcomes
  • Keep abreast of statutory and regulatory compliance requirement changes; disseminate information to relevant parties
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and conducting education and training programs; ensure required attendance is tracked
  • Provide guidance on incorporating ethics and compliance into research, academics, functional, and other day-to-day operations
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates appropriate knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. Demonstrates baseline planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Reviews completed work of others to verify accuracy and quality. Follows recommended approaches to assigned work. Supervises assigned staff and coordinates routine work activities. Monitors employee interactions and facilitates a productive working environment. Communicates instructions and policies in a consistent, effective and timely manner. Identifies and addresses concerns appropriately. Makes recommendations for possible solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Support track, performs work at Senior Support level or higher; for Professional track, performs work at the Advanced Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– May monitor/track budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
Problem Solving:
– Encounters generally routine problems with progressively more complex and/or varied problems
– Typically follows standard operating procedures to resolve problems
– May apply specialized knowledge and skills to resolve complex and/or varied problems
– Applies proven and tries new approaches when solving problems

– Works with minimal supervision on difficult work assignments, conferring with manager on unusual matters

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 10
  • Minimum – $61,800.00
  • MidPoint – $75,700.00
  • Maximum – $89,600.00
