Job Summary

The Travel Safety Compliance Specialist provides health, safety, and security information to University personnel traveling internationally. Responsibilities include providing emergency response support; monitoring and overseeing the Travel Safety Network database; conducting emergency preparedness workshops; providing individualized briefings; conducting compliance audits.

Representative Duties

  • Prepare University personnel for official international travel; keep abreast of world events; research and analyze significant international developments and incidents impacting travel; communicate health, safety, and security advisories; provide emergency response support
  • Oversee the Travel Safety Network (TSN) database; ensure faculty, staff, and students traveling internationally for University purposes or with University funding are aware of TSN registry requirements; provide guidance and monitor compliance; report issues as directed
  • Conduct emergency preparedness workshops; provide information regarding customs, advisories, and travel document requirements; medical, security, and disaster crisis planning (evacuation/repatriation); embassy/consulate locations; Smart Travelers Enrollment Program
  • Provide individualized, country-specific safety and security briefings upon request or for education abroad courses
  • Educate personnel on the University’s International Medical Insurance; provide claim filing information
  • Conduct quality assurance audits and inspections; record compliance data; prepare reports detailing findings; recommend corrective action
  • Continually research international travel rules, regulations, policy and procedure; communicate changes to appropriate personnel
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
Problem Solving:
– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems
– Understands benefits, limitations and impact of potential solutions
– Anticipates potential problems and recommends possible solutions within general guidelines

  • Comp Grade – 8
  • Minimum – $51,000.00
  • MidPoint – $62,500.00
  • Maximum – $74,000.00
