Museum Registrar – Senior Professional (PSU1691)
Job Summary
The Museum Registrar provides collections management for all objects owned by the loaning museum, as well as those on loan to the museum. Registrar responsibilities include creating and maintaining manual and computerized information management systems for works of art, both objects owned by loaning museum and those on loan to the museum; providing collections management and registration support for loans entering and leaving the museum, and all exhibitions held in or organized by the museum; managing the rights and reproduction services, and providing administration for the registration department; serving as a member of the curatorial team reporting to the museum's director; working to accomplish the museum's mission and to support its strategic direction as set by the director and senior leadership of the university; maintaining and developing positive relationships with academic units and entities across campus and in the community, as well as with professional organizations.
Representative Duties
- Direct all aspects of museum operations and provide leadership to ensure strategic goals are achieved
- Lead the operational functions of the museum including education, finance, exhibitions, personnel, collections, community engagement, visitor relations, development, marketing, programming, and revenue generation
- Create and maintain manual and computerized information management systems for works of art and objects owned by museum and those on loan to the museum
- Generate, compile, and maintain legal documents, histories of use, and physical histories of permanent collection objects
- Monitor legal and ethical implications and standard of care transactions
- Develop and administer museum budgets; analyze financial conditions and recommend changes as appropriate
- Curate exhibitions in area of expertise; serve as in-house curator for traveling exhibitions
- Work with museum director and curators in the creation and implementation of a collections management policy and a collection plan
- Oversee internal and external object movement including packing and shipping of collection and loan objects
- Work with University Risk Management Office to contract appropriate insurance coverage
- Direct the development of new exhibitions including research, content creation, vendor selection, and installation
- Negotiate agreements, including proper insurance, shipping arrangements, permissions regarding credits, copyright issues, and contract changes as needed
- Support the access and education of students, faculty, and community researchers

- Minimum – $56,200.00
- MidPoint – $68,800.00
- Maximum – $81,500.00
