Global Safety Manager – Manager (PSU0110)
Job Summary and Representative Duties
The Global Safety Manager oversees the University's international travel risk management framework, ensuring that global travel policies and procedures reflect best practices in health, safety, and security; oversees the Global Safety Office; leads the University's 24/7 international emergency response operations; provides strategic direction for programs and systems that support the safety of students, faculty, and staff traveling abroad; interacts with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior administrators, faculty, students, partner organizations, and the University's international insurance providers.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise employees; oversee team operations, staffing needs, professional development, and performance management
- Serve as a subject matter expert on international health, safety, and security risk
- Develop strategic recommendations and advise University leadership on policy updates, mitigation strategies, and procedures for complex global travel challenges
- Coordinate and conduct travel risk assessments for study abroad programs, non-credit experiences, fieldwork, conferences, and other University-affiliated international activities
- Lead the University's 24/7 international emergency response; advise senior leadership on emergency action plans, response protocols, and traveler support measures
- Coordinate emergency communication and response efforts with external partners, including the University's international emergency medical and security assistance provider
- Develop, implement, and maintain global operations policies, best practices, and procedures designed to support safe and compliant University-affiliated international travel
- Manage the restricted travel exception request workflow and communications with travelers, faculty leaders, administrators, and other stakeholders
- Collaborate with Penn State IT regarding the maintenance and enhancement of international travel systems used to record and monitor international travel; ensure alignment of travel-related systems and practices with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and global safety standards
- Develop workshops, presentations, and informational materials on global travel health, safety, and security; may conduct pre-departure orientations and risk-related trainings for students, faculty, and staff
- Engage with academic units, program leaders, and University stakeholders to promote safe travel practices; collaborate with stakeholders across the University to ensure integrated and effective risk management practices
- Develop multilateral in-country representation proposals, regional strategy planning, and provide support to strategic partner initiatives and for global agreements
- Represent Penn State Global on committees, working groups, and project teams related to international travel, emergency management, and global operations

Salary Structure
- Comp Grade – 12
- Minimum – $76,700.00
- MidPoint – $95,900.00
- Maximum – $115,100.00
