Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Psychologist provides comprehensive mental health services that promote the emotional, behavioral, and psychological well-being of students; conducts clinical assessments, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy for a diverse student population presenting with a broad range of mental health, behavioral, developmental, and adjustment concerns; collaborates with campus and community partners to coordinate care, supports prevention and outreach initiatives, provides consultation to the University community, and contributes to student success through education, training, supervision, research, and service activities.

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical interviews, diagnostic assessments, and case conceptualization for students experiencing a wide range of psychological, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and academic concerns
  • Provide evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy utilizing appropriate therapeutic modalities and interventions
  • Conduct urgent evaluations, crisis assessments, safety planning, risk assessment, and intervention for students experiencing acute psychological distress, including assessment of self-harm, violence risk, and other behavioral emergencies
  • Develop treatment plans, monitor clinical progress, maintain timely clinical documentation, and evaluate treatment outcomes in accordance with ethical, legal, and professional standards
  • Administer, score, interpret, and integrate psychological assessments and standardized instruments to support diagnostic clarification, treatment planning, and referral recommendations, as appropriate
  • Coordinate care with psychiatrists, primary care providers, disability services, case managers, academic units, and community behavioral health providers to facilitate continuity of care and appropriate referrals
  • Consult with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and families, as appropriate, regarding complex mental health concerns, behavioral interventions, crisis response, and student well-being
  • Participate in campus behavioral intervention, threat assessment, crisis response, and case management teams as assigned
  • Design, develop, and deliver psychoeducational workshops, outreach programming, prevention initiatives, and training on mental health, resilience, wellness, crisis response, and related topics for the University community
  • Supervise psychology graduate assistants, practicum students, interns, or other clinical trainees by providing clinical supervision, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development consistent with accreditation and licensing standards
  • Develop and facilitate seminars, case conferences, and educational experiences for trainees in areas such as multicultural counseling, ethics, assessment, group psychotherapy, supervision, research, and evidence-based practice
  • Maintain compliance with applicable ethical principles, professional standards, accreditation requirements, confidentiality regulations, and state and federal laws governing psychological practice
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program evaluation, utilization review, and assessment activities to support continuous improvement of counseling services
  • Serve on committees and participate in strategic planning, policy development, and initiatives supporting student mental health and well-being
  • Engage in teaching, research, scholarly publications, presentations, grant activities, and other academic contributions consistent with the University's mission
  • Participate in local, regional, national, and international professional organizations; maintain professional licensure and continuing education requirements; remain current with emerging research, clinical practices, and higher education trends
  • May supervise staff, including responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, and professional development
