Job Summary

The Accounting Manager oversees, manages and/or supervises the operation of assigned areas involved with various accounting functions; maintains and monitors effective internal controls to ensure accurate financial information, safeguards University assets, and complies with regulations, accounting standards, and University policy; develops and implements strategic planning consistent with the University’s mission and strategic plan; approves, develops, and/or implements methods, procedures, controls, systems, and standards for efficient, effective, timely and accurate operations; conducts general analysis and recommends and implements policy and procedures to improve related accounting and administrative functions; performs a variety of complex accounting functions.

Representative Duties

  • Direct the analysis of accounting and financial records and interpret the results
  • Develop, initiate and/or recommend action plans based on analysis
  • Assess the level of risk in the operation under audit
  • Prepare analysis on the effects of law changes, as well as appropriate University response
  • Prepare and implement policies, practices and procedures for the entire University and subsidiary corporations; develop and maintain effective communication with other University areas to assure awareness of and compliance with all necessary requirements
  • Prepare and transmit final federal, state and information tax returns for the University and its subsidiaries
  • Analyze potential exposure to the University for potential audits and/or negotiate and manage F&A (indirect cost) rates with representatives of the federal government
  • Determine appropriate application of accounting principles, internal controls, policies and regulations
  • Manage overall accounting records and processes
  • Develop and implement the University budget
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate assigned teams
  • Manage process development activities
  • Identify, prioritize and recommend continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Serve as Administration’s liaison to internal and external organizations and committees

Level Summary:
– Demonstrates proficient ability in work design, project management, financial planning and development of goals for accomplishing unit assignments. Reviews and guides work to ensure conformity to policy and effective approaches. Evaluates employee performance and recommend development opportunities. Demonstrates ability to coach employees. Presents and communicates key university indicatives and connects it to unit contributions. Provides broad guidelines. Develops, evaluates, enhances, and/or implements quality improvement practices. Recommends innovative solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees a team (typically 4 or more; no fewer than 2) full
– time direct reports of individual contributors and/or first level supervisors.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters varied and complex problems
– Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope
– Modifies, adapts, or refines guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems

  • Comp Grade – 13
  • Minimum – $86,300.00
  • MidPoint – $107,900.00
  • Maximum – $129,500.00
