Job Summary

Architects lead or collaborate in the development of in-house architectural designs for projects of varying scope, including master planning, site and building development, and/or facility design/renovation; review architectural designs prepared by external consultants; formulate and enforces design standards; lead or participate in feasibility studies for future projects; provide continuous analysis, interpretation, resolution, and implementation on architectural and related matters

Representative Duties

  • Create innovative and functional architectural designs, ensuring they align with university requirements, building codes, and industry standards
  • Meet with stakeholders to understand their vision and needs; present design concepts and revisions; provide expertise and advice on design solutions, materials, and construction methods
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the design process, from initial planning and concept through project completion; coordinate with contractors, engineers, and other professionals to ensure smooth execution
  • Consider the balance of functional, aesthetic, environmentally sustainable, and fiscally responsible design
  • Work with neighboring communities and municipalities on issues of zoning and common interest
  • Produce detailed architectural drawings, 3D models, and specifications using design software; ensure that all documents comply with relevant regulations and codes
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, interior designers, and construction staff to create comprehensive project plans
  • Conduct site visits during construction to ensure that the design is being accurately implemented and that any issues are promptly addressed
  • Recommend external consultants, vendors, and services for the development and design of projects
  • Review designs and documentation to ensure accuracy and adherence to quality standards; resolve any discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national regulations related to building codes, zoning laws, and accessibility standards
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management
