Job Summary and Representative Duties
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of the University's environmental health and safety programs; is responsible for planning, developing, and managing policies and programs that ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while promoting a proactive culture of safety across the institution; serves as a key adviser to leadership; supports operational and capital projects; oversees EHS staff and resources to protect the University community and environment.
- Ensure programs are effectively implemented, maintained, and evaluated for compliance and performance
- Hire, train, supervise, and mentor EHS staff; foster professional development and build team capabilities to meet evolving regulatory and campus needs
- Delegate responsibilities and ensure projects and initiatives are completed on time and within budget
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local EHS regulations; ensure University-wide compliance
- Serve as the University's primary representative during interactions with regulatory agencies, including OSHA, Department of Labor (DOL), and Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC)
- Monitor and evaluate proposed legislation and regulatory changes; recommend and implement program updates
- Direct the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS policies, procedures, and manuals
- Provide expert guidance on facility design, work environments, and operational procedures to ensure safety and compliance
- Promote stewardship of University resources, facilities, and environmental assets
- Develop and oversee University-wide safety training strategies, including hazard recognition, compliance training, and specialized programs
- Ensure effective delivery of training through internal staff and train-the-trainer models
- Evaluate training effectiveness and adjust programs based on risk trends and regulatory requirements
- Oversee EHS audits and inspections to assess compliance and program effectiveness
- Direct incident and accident investigations in coordination with Risk Management, Human Resources, and third-party administrators; lead root cause analyses, track findings, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Identify trends in incidents and hazards; develop targeted interventions to reduce risk
- Serve as a key liaison to campuses, colleges, and administrative units to ensure EHS program effectiveness
- Communicate program updates, risks, and performance metrics to leadership and stakeholders at all levels
- Support EHS integration into research, academic programs, facilities management, and campus operations
- Develop and manage EHS budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
- Oversee EHS data systems and databases; track and analyze injury, incident, and compliance trends
- Provide leadership and oversight for emergency preparedness and response related to environmental and safety incidents
- Support response to incidents involving hazardous materials, fires, chemical spills, indoor air quality issues, and other emergencies

- Minimum – $102,936.00
- MidPoint – $128,688.00
- Maximum – $154,452.00
