Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Athletic Training Manager provides leadership and operational oversight of athletic training services for an assigned sport or program within the University; ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to physically active individuals in accordance with the Pennsylvania Practice Act and under the direction of a licensed physician; supervises a team of athletic trainers, manages sports medicine operations and budgets, and serves as a subject matter expert in athletic training and sports medicine; is responsible for optimizing student-athlete health, safety, and performance while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Provide leadership and direction over athletic training services for assigned teams or programs ; supervise, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate athletic training staff and support personnel
  • Ensure the delivery of comprehensive athletic training services, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses
  • Collaborate with team physicians to prevent, diagnose, and manage emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions
  • Determine appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans and assess readiness for return to participation
  • Provide on-site coverage for practices, competitions, and strength and conditioning activities as needed
  • Coordinate and oversee student-athlete entrance and exit physical examinations
  • Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive injury prevention and performance enhancement programs
  • Establish and enforce best practices, policies, and clinical protocols
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the quality and effectiveness of athletic training services
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in specialized areas of athletic training and sports medicine
  • Manage all aspects of sports medicine administration, including medical documentation, scheduling, and compliance
  • Oversee assigned budgets, including planning, development, financial tracking, and reporting
  • Ensure proper allocation of resources, supplies, and equipment
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, certifications, and continuing education standards
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends, research, and best practices in athletic training and sports medicine
  • Research and recommend new techniques, technologies, and treatment methods
  • Integrate evidence-based practices into daily operations and clinical care
  • Monitor and address student-athlete wellness, including mental health, nutrition, and overall well-being
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals when necessary
  • Serve as a key resource on sports medicine and athletic training for University staff, coaches, and affiliated personnel
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with physicians, healthcare providers, and athletic department staff
  • Provide education and guidance on injury prevention, health, and performance topics
