Job Summary

Project Management Managers direct the organization's portfolio of projects through a team(s) of subordinate project managers; develop and implement project management practices, processes, methodologies, and metrics; oversee coordination of personnel and resources required to successfully complete projects; monitor and report on the status of projects including cost, timing, and staffing; ensure adherence to internal and external quality standards; identify/resolve obstacles to completing project on time and on budget; serve as a liaison between project teams, external customers, or other functional areas of the organization. Project Management positions at this level require industry project management certification.

Representative Duties

  • Provide leadership and direction to project management activities, including major organizational transformation efforts; maintain best practices for project management
  • Direct the work of project managers and teams, including hiring, development, and performance management
  • Establish and coordinate improvements to project management processes for the organization
  • Meet with various stakeholders, including those at the executive level, to analyze needs, and design and develop solutions; participate in thought leadership with unit or University decision makers
  • Incorporate the goals and mission of both the unit and the customer in all work assignments and procedures
  • Implement, review progress, and evaluate results on complex work assignments
  • Analyze and evaluate vendor proposals; determine the feasibility of proposals and provide or evaluate cost benefit analysis
  • Evaluate and initiate the change processes necessary to enhance programs
  • Provide formal functional liaison with other units to collaborate and integrate large scope projects
  • Maintain an awareness of developments in the industry for growth, and impart that knowledge to others
  • Demonstrate an advanced competency in business analysis and organizational change management
  • Participate in the strategic planning process and provide input into strategic decisions for unit(s)
  • May be responsible for various administrative and budget tasks

– Manages direct reports where primary duty is the management of a working unit.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees large team or teams of individual contributors and/or supervisors/managers
– Leads a department or functional area
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Monitors and tracks large budgets
– Plans, forecasts, and/or develops budgets
– May approve budgets for specific area
– Typically has final signature authority for specific area
Problem Solving:
– Encounters highly varied and complex problems that impacts the team and possibly the unit
– Develops creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 14
  • Minimum – $97,100.00
  • MidPoint – $121,400.00
  • Maximum – $145,700.00
