Job Summary

The Veterans Programs Coordinator reviews and councils staff regarding Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and University policies and procedures; responsible for the training/feedback and oversight of counselors/certifying officials; provide professional counseling for student Veterans on financial, academic, or personal matters, including the transition to the civilian/University environment; manage the DVA certification process in compliance with DVA regulations and procedures and review/update process as needed due to changes in legislation/student or University needs; stay up to date on current Undergraduate/Graduate requirements in order to provide accurate information regarding the correct process for applying for military educational benefits or other Veterans benefits.

Representative Duties

  • Serve as the primary point of contact regarding Veterans programs and/or affairs policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain VA Certification Operations Manual detailing Penn State policies to ensure compliance with federal regulations
  • Develop and present training materials to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies
  • Process and provide direct instruction on unusual issues
  • Report student enrollment information to the VA in compliance with VA regulations and procedures which affect school liability
  • Maintain effective liaison relationships with the Veterans Affairs (VA), the Department of Defense (DOD), Pennsylvania's Department of Education State Approving Agency (SAA), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
  • May oversee counseling staff and counsels and advises military-connected students
  • May serve as the primary point of contact for School Certifying Officials (SCO) at Campuses; oversee compliance with University and federal policies and procedures

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
Problem Solving:
– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems
– Understands benefits, limitations and impact of potential solutions
– Anticipates potential problems and recommends possible solutions within general guidelines

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 9
  • Minimum – $56,200.00
  • MidPoint – $68,800.00
  • Maximum – $81,500.00
