Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing one or more of the following functions: the acquisition, maintenance, and disposition of fleet vehicles; vehicle and parking operations; management of parking facilities; oversight of parking enforcement; and event logistics. This role ensures efficiency, safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental sustainability of fleet or parking services; manages budgets; supervises personnel; coordinates with internal departments and external vendors to deliver high-quality service across one or more functions.

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations for assigned functions
  • Hire, train, coach, supervise, schedule, and perform performance management activities for assigned employees
  • Oversee and promote a high level of customer service across fleet or parking operations, ensuring timely, courteous, and effective communication and support; serve as an escalation point for customer concerns
  • Develop, forecast, and monitor operational budgets for fleet or parking services; identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue enhancements; collaborate in the establishment of service rates and fees
  • Maintain adherence to all safety protocols and ensure a consistently safe working environment
  • Inspect facilities for safety and upkeep; coordinate signage, lighting, and equipment maintenance and repair
  • Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance and emergency repairs
  • Plan and implement transportation strategies for special events; coordinate with organizers, facilities, law enforcement, and other stakeholders
  • Recommend purchases of new equipment; participate in procurement bids and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure specifications and specializations are met
  • Oversee the purchase and inventory of supplies
  • Maintain contracts and records; track and validate invoices; authorize payments
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal government regulations
  • Stay informed of changes in regulations and industry standards; update manuals, policies, and procedures accordingly
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and technological enhancements
  • Serve as a liaison between Transportation Services and other University personnel on special projects
  • May oversee snow removal operations and other weather-related emergencies
  • Adhere to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement; participate in grievance procedures as necessary

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Assigns and reviews completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards. Trains, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
