Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Utility Industrial Controls and Technology Supervisor is responsible for leading the operation and maintenance of the University's utility controls systems, platforms, instrumentation, and related operational technologies used in the management of campus-wide utility infrastructure, including steam, chilled water, domestic water, wastewater, and electrical distribution; supervises a team of skilled trades employees and maintenance workers, ensuring the performance, safety, and regulatory compliance of critical sensors, control systems, and monitoring devices.

  • Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of the University's utility controls systems, including steam, chilled water, domestic water, wastewater, and electrical distribution systems
  • Develop and execute comprehensive maintenance, physical security, cybersecurity, repair, and upgrade plans for industrial control systems including SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, and telemetry platforms used in utility infrastructure operations
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics for control system components, including ladder logic programming, sensor calibration, and networked control devices to ensure optimal system performance and reliability
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of skilled trades and maintenance workers who support critical sensors, controls, and monitoring devices; oversee performance, scheduling, and labor relations; provide technical training and mentorship
  • Assign and prioritize work, set performance goals, and ensure adherence to safety standards
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure communication and updates on ongoing projects or issues
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, engineers, and contractors to coordinate projects and align objectives
  • Manage project resources, including budgeting, procurement, scheduling, and contractor oversight
  • Investigate and resolve complex system issues; recommend and implement technical improvements
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure equipment functionality and workplace safety
  • Coordinate and support shutdowns for maintenance and system upgrades, minimizing disruption to campus operations
  • Monitor and analyze system performance data to optimize utility efficiency and reliability
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, safety regulations, regulatory standards, and industry best practices
  • Work closely with Information Technology teams to implement security protocols; ensure integrity of industrial control systems
  • Participate in long-term planning for utility infrastructure improvements and technology upgrades
  • Serve as a technical advisor on cross-functional project teams for new construction and major renovations
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, maintenance activities, and compliance documentation
  • Generate reports on system performance, downtime incidents, and maintenance activities
  • Interface with vendors and manufacturers to evaluate new technologies and recommend system enhancements
  • Maintain an inventory of necessary tools, parts, and materials required for operation and repair
  • Adhere to Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions; participate in grievance procedures

  • Minimum – $68,200.00
  • MidPoint – $85,200.00
