Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Supervisor provides emergency service coordination for pre-hospital emergency care; ensures high-quality patient care, compliance with protocols, and efficient daily operations; serves as a liaison between field personnel, management, and other public safety partners, fostering a positive, accountable, and professional work environment; promotes and delivers education programs; provides data collection and research; plans, staffs, coordinates, and supervises emergency staff.

  • Supervise, mentor, and support Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) during day-to-day operation; oversee staffing deployment, shift assignments, and resource allocation to ensure appropriate coverage
  • Monitor unit readiness, equipment functionality, and vehicle condition
  • Respond to incidents to provide on-scene supervision and support as needed
  • Ensure EMTs follow medical protocols, standards of care, and organizational policies
  • Review patient care reports for accuracy, completeness, and quality assurance
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and remedial training when clinical performance issues are identified
  • Participate in medical skills evaluations and continuing education activities
  • Coordinate and instruct EMS classes and training at the basic and advanced life support levels
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational policies and procedures
  • Conduct performance evaluations and assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of EMTs
  • Maintain records related to personnel performance, incidents, equipment, and compliance
  • Oversee inventory of emergency medical supplies and equipment
  • Prepare reports and communicate operational issues to leadership
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EMS regulations
  • Plan and manage special event operations to include on-site supervision of personnel, facilities, vehicles, coordination with other resources (police, events staff, communications center etc.)
  • Participate in the establishment of Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs)
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and complaints, and recommend corrective actions
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and data-driven performance enhancements
  • Promote a culture of safety and risk mitigation within EMS operations

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates appropriate knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. Supervisory Responsibilities:
