International Immigration Specialist – Intermediate Professional (PSU0227)

Job Summary and Representative Duties
The International Immigration Specialist provides immigration advising and case management services regarding U.S. employment-based immigration matters; ensures institutional compliance with federal and state immigration regulations, while delivering guidance on nonimmigrant and immigrant visa options; manages employment-based petitions; advises departments on sponsorship processes and timelines; supports regulatory compliance initiatives; serves as a designated institutional representative within federal immigration systems.
- Advise on U.S. immigration regulations related to sponsored employment, including maintenance of status and dependent matters
- Counsel academic departments, Human Resources, and hiring managers on appropriate visa classifications, sponsorship eligibility, timelines, and filing strategies
- Guide employees and departments through nonimmigrant petition processes and, when applicable, employment-based permanent residence
- Determine eligibility and prepare required documentation for employment-based immigration petitions filed with U.S. government agencies
- Review supporting documentation, such as financial documents, appointment letters, and/or academic credentials, to ensure regulatory compliance
- Ensure all university-sponsored immigration processes comply with applicable federal and state laws, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Labor (DOL), and Department of State (DOS) regulations
- Prepare and submit petitions and supporting documentation to relevant government entities
- Maintain accurate records in institutional and federal systems, such as SEVIS and case management platforms
- Monitor evolving immigration regulations and implement necessary procedural updates
- Maintain documentation for audit and public access file purposes
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employment-based immigration questions for assigned colleges or departments
- Liaise with Human Resources, Payroll, and academic units to ensure proper onboarding and employment authorization compliance
- Develop and deliver training programs and informational sessions for departments, faculty, and scholars
- Create and update written communications, including newsletters, orientation materials, website content, and procedural guides
- Maintain internal case tracking systems and electronic immigration management platforms
- Generate reports and respond to internal and external inquiries regarding immigration matters
- May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Salary Structure
- Comp Grade – 8
- Minimum – $51,000.00
- MidPoint – $62,500.00
