Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Student Affairs Generalist supports and provides critical services to the vibrant, inclusive, and student-centered campus environment at one or more of the University's Commonwealth Campuses; provides broad-based support across multiple functional areas, including but not limited to student engagement, student success initiatives, student conduct, disability services, wellness programming, orientation, and career development; works collaboratively with campus partners to enhance the holistic student experience and ensure students have access to the resources needed for personal, academic, and professional growth.

  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate programs that promote student involvement, sense of belonging, and leadership development
  • Support student organizations through advising, training, and administrative guidance; assist with campus events and student-led initiatives
  • Provide assistance, advocacy, and support to students across a broad spectrum of issues and concerns such as behavioral and/or psychological challenges, social or adjustment problems, academic related challenges, and financial issues
  • Provide outreach to students, faculty, and staff regarding students in crisis and with early-alert interventions; serve as an on-call staff member as required
  • Provide comprehensive case management for students in distress or crisis; identify and communicate possible intervention steps and procedures; provide assistance, advocacy, and support; coordinate resources
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement strategies that promote persistence and completion
  • Support the administration of student conduct processes, including case management, documentation, student meetings, and educational sanctions
  • Promote an educational and restorative approach to resolving behavioral concerns; assist with policy communication and prevention programming
  • Design, oversee, and implement programming and services that support the representation, engagement, retention, and success of specific populations, underrepresented groups, or those experiencing barriers to success
  • Assist in reviewing accommodation requests and supporting the implementation of approved accommodations
  • Work with faculty, staff, and students to promote accessibility and inclusive learning environments; maintain confidentiality and compliance with ADA, Section 504, and institutional policies
  • Partner with campus health, counseling, and wellness offices to promote holistic well-being initiatives; support programs related to mental health, stress management, substance use prevention, and overall wellness
  • Support the planning and execution of new student orientation, transition, and welcome programs; contribute to communication strategies for students and families
  • Provide career guidance, resume reviews, and job search support to students
  • Assist with employer outreach, career fairs, workshops, and professional development events
  • Promote experiential learning opportunities such as service learning, internships, co-ops, and mentorships
  • Assist in training student leaders, orientation leaders, and/or peer mentors
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Assigns and reviews completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards. Trains, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Anticipates potential problems, issues, and opportunities; researches and recommends solutions within defined policies. May develop creative recommendations for solving problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets

– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems

  • Comp Grade – 9
  • Minimum – $56,200.00
  • MidPoint – $68,800.00
  • Maximum – $81,500.00
