Job Summary and Representative Duties
The Student Athlete Learning Services Manager provides leadership and management for comprehensive academic learning support services for student-athletes with diverse learning profiles, academic risks, and educational needs; oversees Learning Services programs, professional staff, service-delivery standards, student screening and intervention processes, specialized academic support, and complex student cases; combines expertise in learning support, student development, educational assessment, and academic intervention with responsibility for program operations, staff leadership, strategic planning, assessment, and continuous improvement; establishes priorities and service-delivery frameworks, evaluates program effectiveness, develops staff and resources, and collaborates with Athletics and University partners to promote student-athlete academic success.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive Learning Services programs, service-delivery models, and initiatives
- Supervise staff responsible for academic learning support and intervention; recruit, hire, onboard, train, develop, evaluate, and manage the performance of assigned staff
- Establish organizational structure, staffing models, caseload assignments, service standards, professional expectations, and operational priorities
- Establish and implement differentiated levels of academic support based on student needs, academic risk, assessment information, and available resources
- Oversee student-athlete screening, early identification, academic intervention, progress monitoring, referral, and specialized support processes
- Establish standards for individualized learning plans, intervention strategies, documentation, progress monitoring, and evaluation
- Provide consultation and direction regarding complex or high-risk student-athlete cases and determine when additional resources, referrals, or leadership involvement are appropriate
- Oversee processes involving specialized evaluation, disability-related referrals, and coordination with other appropriate resources
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, protocols, quality-assurance practices, and professional standards for Learning Services
- Lead the development and evaluation of transition programs, academic interventions, specialized support initiatives, and emerging Learning Services programs
- Establish metrics, key performance indicators, and assessment practices to evaluate student outcomes, service utilization, intervention effectiveness, staffing effectiveness, and overall program impact
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, student outcomes, screening results, academic performance, service utilization, and staffing needs to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, anticipate needs, and inform resource decisions
- Identify gaps in services and develop programs, interventions, staffing strategies, and resource recommendations to address emerging needs
- Lead staff meetings, case consultations, professional development, and training to promote consistent, evidence-based practices
- Direct continuous improvement efforts and evaluate the use of technology, evidence-based practices, and innovative approaches to enhance student support
- Collaborate with Student-Athlete Advising, Tutorial Services, Student Disability Resources, faculty, coaches, sport administrators, Sports Medicine, mental health and medical professionals, student affairs, and other University partners
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships and coordination processes to support student-athletes with complex or differentiated academic and learning needs
- Advise Athletics and departmental leadership regarding learning support trends, student needs, academic risk factors, staffing requirements, program effectiveness, and resource priorities
- Lead cross-functional projects and institutional initiatives related to student success, academic risk, learning support, accessibility, and student well-being
- Keep current on national research, professional standards, and emerging best practices in collegiate learning support and student-athlete academic services
- Develop and maintain appropriate external partnerships and professional relationships that support Learning Services objectives
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, ADA, NCAA requirements, University policies, departmental standards, and applicable professional practices
