Job Summary and Representative Duties
The Career Services Manager provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for career services programs and operations that support the career development and success of students, alumni, and/or other designated populations; oversees career advising and development, career education and programming, career events, outreach and communications, employer engagement, career resources and technologies, and program assessment; leads strategic initiatives, develops and evaluates programs and services, manages staff and resources, and collaborates with academic and administrative partners to advance career readiness, experiential learning, employment outcomes, and institutional career success goals.
- Direct and manage career services employees across assigned functional areas, including career development, programming, employer engagement, career events, outreach, information and resource management, and data/assessment; establish priorities, allocate work, provide supervision and coaching, and support employee development and performance
- Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for career services functions; establish goals, priorities, service standards, and performance expectations to ensure effective and consistent delivery of career services
- Manage departmental resources, including staffing, budgets, technology, and other operational resources
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives that align career services with institutional priorities and address evolving career development, employment, and workforce needs of students and alumni
- Provide leadership for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of career services programs, services, and initiatives; establish program objectives, measures of success, and continuous improvement strategies
- Oversee career services outreach, communications, and programming strategies designed to increase awareness, access, and engagement among students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other relevant populations
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, service standards, and operating practices to ensure the effective, consistent, and high-quality delivery of career services
- Oversee career development and career readiness initiatives that support career exploration, professional development, experiential learning, internship and employment preparation, and successful career transitions for students and alumni
- Monitor emerging career trends, workforce needs, and employment outcomes to inform career services strategy, programming, and resource development
- Provide oversight and strategic direction for employer engagement activities; establish goals and priorities for employer outreach, relationship development, recruiting, experiential learning, and employment opportunities
- Direct and support the development of employer engagement strategies that expand opportunities for students and alumni, while ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, academic programs, and student career interests
- Oversee employer-focused initiatives and events, including career fairs, recruiting programs, employer information sessions, networking events, industry panels, site visits, mentorship initiatives, and other employer engagement activities
- Foster strategic relationships with employers, alumni, community organizations, academic departments, and other external partners as appropriate to advance career development, experiential learning, and employment outcomes
- Establish and oversee assessment strategies to evaluate career services programs, employer engagement activities, student and alumni engagement, and career outcomes; analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, measure effectiveness, and inform strategic decisions
- Develop and monitor performance measures, benchmarks, and outcome indicators; prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership and other stakeholders
- Benchmark career services programs, organizational structures, and practices against peer institutions and emerging professional standards; identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
- Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, student services, alumni relations, development, and other University partners to integrate career development and employer engagement into curricular and co-curricular experiences
