Job Summary and Representative Duties
The Career Services Specialist provides comprehensive career development services to students and/or alumni job seekers through individualized career coaching, career education, and program coordination; develops and delivers career readiness programs and resources; supports career fairs, recruiting initiatives, and other career-related events; evaluates program effectiveness; contributes to institutional efforts that advance student and alumni career success.
- Deliver individualized career coaching and advising to students and/or alumni; assess career goals, interests, skills, qualifications, and career readiness; assist individuals in developing and implementing personalized career plans
- Advise students and/or alumni on resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, job/internship search strategies, professional networking, career exploration, and other career readiness skills; provide guidance regarding graduate and professional school options, career pathways, employment opportunities, and professional development
- Facilitate, deliver, and evaluate career education, workshops, seminars, resources, and programs addressing career exploration, career decision-making, job search strategies, professional networking, interviewing, professional development, and other career readiness competencies
- Plan, coordinate, and execute career fairs, career-related events, networking programs, and recruiting activities that connect students and alumni with employment and career development opportunities; coordinate student and alumni participation and facilitate related preparation and follow-up
- Review and evaluate internship, employment, experiential learning, and other career opportunities to assess relevance to student and alumni needs and alignment with career services objectives
- Utilize career assessments, labor market information, and other career development resources to assist students and alumni in exploring career interests, occupations, employment trends, and potential career pathways
- Collaborate on employer engagement initiatives; provide students and alumni with information and resources to effectively engage with prospective employers
- Develop and implement communication strategies that engage students and alumni with career services, career education programs, employment and internship opportunities, recruiting activities, career events, and career readiness resources
- Coordinate the operational delivery of career services programs and recruiting initiatives, including event logistics, career technologies, scheduling, registration, and related processes
- Maintain student, alumni, employer, and career opportunity data within career management technologies
- Collect and analyze participant feedback, engagement metrics, career outcomes, and other performance data to evaluate career services initiatives and recommend improvements
- Participate in College, Campus, and University committees, initiatives, and special projects that advance career development, career readiness, student and alumni success, and institutional strategic priorities
- May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management
