Job Summary

The Business Development Relationship Advisor directs and develops the business/client relationship model for an organization; provides business consultation and solutions related to areas of innovation and technology; pursues and maintains strategic relationships with stakeholders; negotiates agreements with business partners; and identifies and assesses business opportunities.

Representative Duties

  • Define relationship management strategies to identify and pursue business development opportunities in support of an organization, institute, or business unit
  • Recruit, engage, and evaluate potential companies and entrepreneurs to receive funding and support from University affiliated technology economic development programs within an assigned region
  • Use industry expertise to provide business consultation services including diagnostics, technical assessment, gap analysis, data analysis, business plan and solution development, marketing strategies, funding guidance, and performance evaluation strategies; provide business solutions related to energy, technology, innovation, and economic development
  • Establish relationships and engage key stakeholders including business groups, industry partners, client companies, and federal, state, and local agencies with the aim of gaining leverage and advocacy to advance organizational missions
  • Connect industry experts with University resources to facilitate connections and mutually beneficial relationships; develop and leverage relationships with external organizations build resource network
  • Manage contract/agreement negotiation; advise on the commercialization of projects
  • Author and submit grants and proposals in pursuit of funding from sponsors; identify and address funding gaps; develop new revenue models; may oversee grant administration practices of the unit
  • Analyze business trends, assess potential markets, and research future business opportunities; advise leadership on new projects and initiatives
  • Design new models of client responsiveness to achieve business/portfolio growth goals; create business opportunity pipelines

Base Description:
– Supervises direct reports, but primarily completes activities, tasks, and/or projects of a functional nature.
Level Summary:
– Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge to perform own work; spends majority of time on tasks related to own job responsibilities. May demonstrate subject matter expertise. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Demonstrates the ability to coach assigned employees. Assigns and reviews completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards. Trains, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Anticipates potential problems, issues, and opportunities; researches and recommends solutions within defined policies. May develop creative recommendations for solving problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Typically oversees at least 2 full–time direct reports or equivalent team of part–time and/or student workers (for Professional track, performs work at the Senior Professional level or higher)
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– May validate and pay invoices
– Monitors and tracks budgets for specific area and/or grant(s)
– May assist in planning and forecasting budgets
Problem Solving:
– Encounters moderately complex problems
– Applies general precedents and practices and specialized knowledge and skills to resolve problems
– Understands benefits, limitations and impact of potential solutions
– Anticipates potential problems and recommends possible solutions within general guidelines

  • Comp Grade – 13
  • Minimum – $86,300.00
  • MidPoint – $107,900.00
  • Maximum – $129,500.00
