Job Summary and Representative Duties

The Reporting Specialist responds to report requests and configures reports and templates; provides support for data applications; ensures data quality by defining data collection and validation procedures; maintains strong proficiency with data programs and/or applications.

  • Evaluate and respond to data reporting requests from internal and external stakeholders; define priorities and deliverables based on stakeholder needs and service targets; develop a data management plan to collect and prepare data; produce and deliver reports utilizing varied data sources
  • Utilize business data programs, systems, and/or applications to support ongoing data collection, management, and reporting activities
  • Design and maintain scalable reporting frameworks to support both standardized and ad hoc data requests efficiently, minimizing duplication of effort and manual processing
  • Prepare test plans, execute testing, and ensure desired results are achieved
  • Perform and evaluate data validation procedures; resolve data discrepancies; document best practices
  • Modify, configure, and update existing reports or templates; automate recurring data tasks through scripting or tools to increase reporting efficiency and reduce human error
  • Provide support for departmental data applications, software, or interfaces; troubleshoot data entry procedures, system errors, and data validation
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards, helping the university adhere to internal governance policies and external regulations
  • Develop training resources; provide functional and technical support and/or training
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to data systems or reporting platforms based on user feedback, system performance, or evolving business needs
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Supervisory Responsibilities:
