Job Summary

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager plans, develops, and manages University policies for adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. Manager responsibilities include providing environmental, health, and safety advice regarding facility, work area, and work procedure design and development; directing environmental policy and procedure manual preparation, maintenance, and updates; ensuring regulatory compliance; keeping abreast of legislation and regulations impacting the organization; ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget; acting as advisor to environmental, health, and safety engineering teams regarding projects, tasks, and operations.

Representative Duties

  • Provide leadership in the development and management of the University's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protection programs, inclusive of hazardous building material, hazardous waste, hazardous materials shipping programs, and other environmental protection programs
  • Hire, train, supervise, and mentor assigned staff
  • Service campuses, units, and colleges to meet program needs; provide updates and maintain communication with stakeholders at various levels to achieve desired results
  • Manage EHS budgets and databases; track injury trends and share relevant information with leadership and affected units
  • Oversee the University accident investigation program in coordination with Risk Management, Human Resources, and third-party workers compensation administrators
  • Interpret federal and state regulations concerning EHS programs and compliance
  • Audit and recommend changes/updates to programs and procedures, as appropriate; direct non-compliance/other EHS-related investigations; conduct root cause analysis; track, compile, and report findings; develop/recommend corrective action
  • Review proposed legislation and regulations; recommend improvements; promote University resource and physical asset stewardship
  • Represent the University during interactions with regulatory bodies including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Labor (DOL), and Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC)
  • Develop overall safety training and hazard evaluation strategies for the University community

– Monitors and tracks department/area budget
– May plan, forecast, and/or assist in developing budgets
– May have final signature authority for specific area

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 13
  • Minimum – $86,300.00
  • MidPoint – $107,900.00
  • Maximum – $129,500.00
